Traveling thousands of miles from home to enter college is the only way nineteen-year-old Avery Morgansten can escape what happened at the Halloween party five years ago—an event that forever changed her life. All she needs to do is make it to her classes on time, make sure the bracelet on her left wrist stays in place, not draw any attention to herself, and maybe—please God—make a few friends, because surely that would be a nice change of pace. The one thing she didn’t need and never planned on was capturing the attention of the one guy who could shatter the precarious future she’s building for herself.
Some things are worth experiencing…
Cameron Hamilton is six feet and three inches of swoon-worthy hotness, complete with a pair of striking blue eyes and a remarkable ability to make her want things she believed were irrevocably stolen from her. She knows she needs to stay away from him, but Cam is freaking everywhere, with his charm, his witty banter, and that damn dimple that’s just so… so lickable. Getting involved with him is dangerous, but when ignoring the simmering tension that sparks whenever they are around each other becomes impossible, he brings out a side of her she never knew existed.
Some things should never be kept quiet…
But when Avery starts receiving threatening emails and phone calls forcing her to face a past she wants silenced, she’s has no other choice but to acknowledge that someone is refusing to allow her to let go of that night when everything changed. When the devastating truth comes out, will she resurface this time with one less scar? And can Cam be there to help her or will he be dragged down with her?
And some things are worth fighting for…
Oh, ye gods of romance. Thank you for this book. I absolutely adored this novel. It was so raw, but not angsty. It was romantic, but not sickly sweet. It was just perfect. I sat there, watching the story unfold, watching Avery want Cam, letting him in but only at arm's length, and I knew, I knew he was going to be the greatest love story of her life. The epic love. About forty percent through the book, I thought all right, things are going to start really happening now, and I was right. Things happened.
Avery: I don't really have words for Avery. She's so contained on the exterior. But inside she's all goo--she's feeling all sorts of things. Things a girl her age should know how to deal with to some degree. But she's been so frozen in some ways, and so badly treated that she's stuck. She doesn't know how to deal with Cam. But she knows she doesn't want him to go away. She knows she needs him. She knows she has intense, real feelings for him and that, holy mother of sweet romance, she wants to explore. She needs to explore and give voice to. But how does Avery do that when she has yet to face the past? That's the big problem in this book. It has nothing to do with trusting with Cam really--it's more about facing what happened.
Cam: *shudder* Cam wins Most Drool Worthy Hero Award of the year in my books. Big, protective, awesome, sweet, hot--he's got it all covered. And the things he says to Avery just make you swoon while reading the book. But you know what the most wonderful thing is about Cam? He honest to goodness wants a relationship with Avery, and he's willing to wait till she's ready. Of course, he doesn't fully know what's in Avery's past. He suspects, but he's not sure. And Cam never really leaves Avery. He wants trust from her, and he does leave her when she's not willing to share what's eating her up inside, but he was still just across the hall, waiting for her. Loving her. That's epic love.
It was wonderful to see Avery unfurl and face up to her past. To deal with it, to stand up for herself. To stop hiding behind new phone numbers, and new places. To confront herself as much as she confronted her parents and the people harassing her. It was great to see Cam stand by her every step of the way. Everything about this novel rang true, and made me feel. A truly fantastic read that I could read again and again.
