After spending another family wedding fielding questions about her non-existent love life, Kelsey Noble decides she’s tired of waiting around for things she could go out and get herself. What Kelsey wants is a baby, and she doesn’t see any point waiting for a husband she’s not even sure she wants. But a mix-up at the fertility clinic lands her with a hassle she didn’t count on. A big, muscular hassle in a Stetson and cowboy boots.

Cole Mitchell is shocked to discover that a grand gesture from years past has come back to haunt him. Now, thanks to a clerical error, a woman he’s never met is having his baby—and there’s no way he’s going to walk away and forget he has a child.

Trying to make nice with the unexpected father of her baby lands Kelsey in Silver Creek, Oregon, dealing with the kind of small town life she left behind years ago. Even worse is dealing with the burning attraction she feels for Cole. She knows adding sex to the mix is a very bad idea, but she’s not sure how long she can resist falling for the last man she ever expected…

This was a great first book to the series. The premise is cute, and I immediately connected with Kelsey in the opening chapters. She was the black sheep of her family, the independent one. The single one. The one who had a career. Deciding on having a baby on her own was a very independent choice, but Kelsey is the sort of character who goes after what she wants. Who would have thought such a choice would lead to something as totally unexpected as Cole?

Cole wasn't going to back away once he knew for certain what had happened to his sperm deposit. Which the clinic was not supposed to give to Kelsey. He certainly wasn't expecting to become a father, but his upbringing had taught him that he couldn't simply walk away from Kelsey and his baby. I really admired that about him because it might have been a lot easier to just do that, but instead Cole wants to work with Kelsey to find a way to be apart of his baby's life. And Kelsey is willing to have him be apart of the baby's life, which I thought was pretty commendable on her part, since she'd decided to have a baby on her own in the first place.
Book Two

What neither of them was expecting was for the attraction to build into something meaningful. In fact, Cole is out and out convinced that he can't have anything as complicated as love in his life again. He wants to marry Kelsey, but even though he feels deeply for her, and the smex is very hot, he just doesn't think he can do love. Love, and not just romantic love, has burned him in the past. Those experiences left him pretty darn sure that it was better to not to let anything like feelings get involved with Kelsey. But Kelsey being as strong as she is, decides it's better not to be with Cole if she can't have it all with him.

I loved her strength and independence that way. And even though Cole was an ass for a bit there, he was the sort of stand up guy that I could admire in a romance hero, and just a wee bit wicked (in a great many senses of the word) which I rather liked too. The way these two characters challenged and complimented one another is wonderful to read, and the banter between the is smart and funny. The ending was wrapped up a bit quickly, but overall this was a wonderful story where a couple learns about healing, love and had a great cast of supporting characters that I can't wait to read more about.
